ICOM Executive Board elections – meet your ICOM Australia candidate
Dear colleagues
I’m pleased to advise that I’m running for a second term as Ordinary Member of the ICOM Executive Board. I have been nominated by ICOM ASPAC and ICOM Australia.
I’m the only candidate from the entire Pacific region – and it is vital that ICOM has world-wide representation.
I’ve worked hard during my first term on the Executive Board, including chairing the EB Governance Sub-Group, which has been responsible for initiatives including a forthcoming Onboarding Leadership Guide for all ICOM boards. As a member of the Executive Board, I also sit ex officio on the ICOM ASPAC Board and the SAREC Committee. In ASPAC I’ve led the review and drafting of new ASPAC Rules, which will be voted in Dubai. I have been an active member of SAREC and have supported improvements to SAREC’s processes and accessibility of resources – though of course there’s still much more to be done!
As a curator of many years’ experience, I believe it’s important that ICOM’s Executive Board reflects the full spectrum of museum professionals, rather than just senior executives. My background in collections, exhibitions and research, experience working in museums in Australia, the US and Canada, and experience within ICOM and beyond, provide a strong basis from which I can contribute to the effective governance of ICOM.
If re-elected, I will continue to strongly support the key principles of the ICOM Strategic Plan, including governance reform, improved communication, and advocacy for critical issues including climate change, decolonisation, capacity-building and regional representation. I’ll respond energetically to key challenges and opportunities including the revision of the Code of Ethics; improved funding for our members and the network; and better use of expertise in our networks. Support of sustainable and just practices is critical to our sector, and strategies to improve diversity and inclusion must form a focus.
As an experienced Executive Board member, I’m aware of the significant amount of work this entails – sometimes at all hours of the night! – and I have the capacity to again commit the necessary time to carry out the work required.
I hope that you will support me with votes at the forthcoming election of the Executive Board in Dubai. You can read more about my candidacy here.
